Let the Inaugural Packaging Games Begin
Feb 16, 2014;
The paperwork with FDA came through this week and so did the sample batch of our Butternut Squash Flour. Feeling super official and caught up in olympic spirit, we thought we would get a feel for how long the packaging part was going to take us, and get a head start on our blogger-sample packs.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought. I’m generally a super optimistic person, but for some reason I was dreading this before we started. We had 100 to pack, including set up and clean up, I figured it was going to take over 3 hours. We did it in less than 2! Most of that was due to Amanda with her food safety and efficiency genius. I opened the pouches for her to fill, then I sealed. She cased the pouches while I cleaned up. Good teamwork. Heading into the next two hundred, we now have a number to beat.
We’ve been talking to a few co-packer to see if that would be a viable option for us. The first quote that came back was pretty high and required a much larger minimum order than we expected. Waiting to hear back from one more with a smaller minimum commitment. Fingers crossed.
For now, the packs are taking up a bunch of space in the living room but we are excited to get them labeled and out the door for some feedback!
